A delegation visit of Guinean Timbo elders

TSJI research cluster Hidden Black CT hosted a delegation of Timbo elders from Guinea. The delegation traced the path of their ancestor, Prince Abdulrahman, who, after having been enslaved in the US for over forty years, came to Hartford around 1828 to fundraise for his trip home to Africa.

Dean John Selders, Maggie Powers, and Nicole Ankrah led the research for the visit. They collaborated with archivists Eric Johnson, Eric Stoykovich, and Christina Bleyer from Trinity’s Watkinson Library in the College archives. Students Taha Moula, Alex Cacciato, Diarra Sadji, Amza Togore, and Rabi Ba translated for the elders. President Joanne Berger-Sweeney welcomed the delegation to the TSJI space.
